In order to decide if you'd like to receive Career Coaching by Vitalis Coaching, you might want to know what the coaching process entails. The information below is a possible outline and the purpose is to give you an idea about how we work. Subjects can be deleted or extended, depending on your unique situation. The exact approach will be adjusted according to your wishes and needs during the Career Coaching process.
What would you like to get out of the Career Coaching process? What wishes do you have regarding your professional development? Where would you like to be in one year and in five years? These answers can be found by asking you certain coaching questions and/or we could do a NLP exercise called 'the time line'. What are the steps you need to take (and when) to reach the career path we are aiming for? We could, if needed, look at some practical aspects: The current state of your CV, networking possibilities, interview skills, cover letter, etc.
This is particularly useful in case you'd like a career change, but you are not very clear yet of what you'd like to do. You might have a good idea of what you DON'T want and WHY. Via several in-depth coaching and NLP exercises we'll create clarity, direction and focus.
We'll focus on what you are naturally good at and what others admire in you. We'll work with role models. Which qualities and skills do you already have to get your dream career, and which could use some extra development? How do your skills transfer to the current work environment? We'll do some exercises and give you tools to improve your confidence and self-esteem.
How do you relate to others? Personal interaction is crucial for realising the career of your dreams. How and where could you use interpersonal skills and networking opportunities to proceed in your career? How did you experience your previous relationships with colleagues and managers at work? What can we learn from those relationships? What is your opinion about business politics and making sure you're seen by higher management? We can do some NLP exercises called 'Perceptual Positions'.
What are the reasons for exploring your career path? Was it a voluntary choice to look for a new job? In some cases you might like a Career Coach to support you during a time of emotional setbacks. When you have been made redundant, fallen victim to retrenchment, or been fired - maybe in your eyes for unfair reasons - you might like to work on your sadness or resentment. Putting your time and energy (and in some cases even your heart and soul) into a company only to be left empty-handed, can be very difficult. As your Career Coach, we are here to support you during the process of letting go and acceptance.
This is about finding out what you stand for in life (what role does career play in the big picture). What is important to you in your career? What requirements must your job fulfil in order to make you happy? We can do this via a Value Elicitation Exercise and via a deck of cards full of work related statements to find out which ones apply to you.
What type of barriers have you come across so far in your search for a new job? What types of obstacle have materialised in your internal world (inner voices that sabotage the process, unconscious blocks, lack of confidence, stress etc) or external world (lack of time, different priorities, lack of support, challenging job market etc)? Which job opportunities failed to take off and what can we learn from this for the future? We'll work on your motivation during setbacks and your confidence in a positive final outcome.
How do you make the best decisions when it comes to your career path? Overview of past lessons learned and focus on the future.
Some clients enjoy Career Coaching Assignments to do at home between the sessions which we evaluate and analyse together.
